"Life is made up of moments, small pieces of glittering mica in a long stretch of gray cement. It would be wonderful if they came to us unsummoned, but particularly in lives as busy as the ones most of us lead now, that won't happen. We have to teach ourselves how to make room for them, to love them, and to live, really live." - Anna Quindlen, author and Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist
How do we make room for these moments? How can we teach ourselves to really live? Awareness comes first. Having a desire to live this way helps too. If we don't care about capturing these special times, then it does not matter one way or another.
We can make room in our lives for these moments. We can take five minutes and sit quietly and just "be". We can acknowledge a feeling, an idea, or a chance meeting with a special friend. Acknowledgment can bring us yet more awareness. And awareness will bring us clearer recognition and more desire to make room for the moments.
It is worth the effort. You are worth the effort. Life will change dramatically for you if you pay more attention to these glittering moments. And you will never want to look back. Start by taking five minutes out of your day and see if you can build up to fifteen, twenty, or even sixty minutes a day of sitting still and breathing in all there is to take in. May you find the "small pieces of glittering mica" that is yours to find.
Today I will make room for my moments so I can love them and really live life the way it is meant to be lived. I am eternally grateful.
