Time To Recharge The Batteries

Have you ever worked so hard that you ran out of energy and it was draining just to eat a meal or get ready for bed? Well, I am at that point. I have been working so hard lately that I have not taken the time to sit and relax at all. I was reminded yesterday that everyone has five minutes to do something for themselves. So, it is time to recharge my batteries!

How can we recharge our batteries? Well, we are sometimes rushing around so much that we forget we can take five minutes to regroup. We can sit quietly, close our eyes, and simply focus on our breathing - in and out, slowly - until we feel our bodies relax, even if it is just a little bit. If we do not take this time for ourselves, we will continue to feel more and more stress, we will experience more physical pain, and we will become edgier and more agitated with the people we spend time with every day. After a long day at work, we can come home and do one thing for ourselves that will reinforce the message that we count too. After a day of helping other people and doing what our bosses require us to do, it is nice to be treated with some kindness, especially when we are the ones who are actually treating ourselves with the kindness we deserve.

It is not easy to remember to take care of self. It is much easier for me to race around like a chicken without its head, rushing to meet a multitude of deadlines that cannot possibly be met. It is extremely difficult for me to remember to take time to sit, be quiet, breathe, and take care of me. But when I do, I am more productive, I am content, and I am rejuvenated with energy to again face all of my obligations and responsibilities. It is worth the effort to take care of self - the rewards speak for themselves.

Today I will take time to sit quietly and breathe slowly, in and out. I will remember that this time for self will bring me more benefits than I can count. It will be worth my time and effort and I am worthy of being cared for and nurtured. I am grateful for the answers I receive and the lessons I learn during my quiet time. - K Kerswig, Blue Skies Life Coaching
