We can learn from everything we experience and we can learn from everyone we meet! It is truly that simple. When I have a challenge to face, I learn from the experience and I take note of what could have been done better in case I face a similar challenge in the future. If I meet up with someone I do not like, I can become aware of what characteristics I do not like, evaluate my own behavior to be sure I am not exhibiting those same characteristics, and I can take comfort in knowing that I have learned from another human being how I do not want to act towards others.
Is this true for anyone? It can be. We need some willingness to look within ourselves. We need some courage to face reality and own up to our true natures. We need to have honesty if we are ever going to be able to improve our own behavior. It is best to focus on self, to look to improve one's own actions, rather than focusing on another person's faults and defects. Yes, this can be done. It is a simple approach to life; it just is not always easy to carry out.
If we all believed that we could learn from everyone and everything, imagine how much kinder the world would be. If we all followed this path of learning and sharing with each other, imagine the good that could come out of this approach. Peace would have a chance. Love could be cultivated and nurtured between all human beings. It is possible. Just something to think about on any given day - try to be aware of these lessons being sent to you each and every day. The results could amaze you!
Today I will pay attention to the lessons all around me. I will place my judgment and my criticism aside and I will focus on my actions, my thoughts, and my reactions. I am grateful for the lessons I receive every day. I am truly grateful. - K Kerswig, Certified Life/Recovery Coach, Blue Skies Life Coaching
