"Believing in a true self is what allows a true self to be born." - Gloria Steinem, political activist, writer, and editor
What does it take to believe in a true self? If there is little to no belief in self, how can we gain some? It is not always easy to change our opinions about who we are and what we are capable of accomplishing in this lifetime. Sometimes all it takes is for us to tell ourselves we have the ability to do what we set our minds to do. That may be all we need to do to get started.
If you grew up with strict parents or if you heard family and friends criticizing you during your childhood and/or adolescence, it is difficult to turn those messages off and suddenly start thinking you can achieve goals and dreams. The best way to start is to tell yourself that you are worthy of good. Understand that there is an authentic "you" deep down inside and all you need to do is give that authentic, true self a chance to blossom and shine. Surround yourself with others who are seeking to develop their true selves. Positive people attract positive people. Allowing a true self to be born can open up a world of possibility in your life.
So, for the record, in order to find your true self, believe that you actually have a true self. You will find out who that true self is if you never forget that this true self exists. That is how you begin.
Today I believe in a true self. I will allow my true self to be seen by others and I will welcome the lessons that come to me as my true self emerges more and more each day. I am grateful. - K Kerswig, Blue Skies Life Coaching
