Permanently Personal Gifts

"Do give books - religious or otherwise - for Christmas. They're never fattening, seldom sinful, and permanently personal." - Lenore Hershey, editor of McCalls Magazine (1952 - 1968) and The Ladies Home Journal (1973 - 1981)

This is the time of year when people are stressed beyond belief, attempting to get the perfect gift for all of their loved ones. Traffic is down to a crawl, the checkout lines are backed up and blocking the aisles, and common courtesy seems to have gone out the window for some shoppers. Are you struggling to get your shopping done on time as you seek out those perfect gift choices?

Books make excellent gifts and they are permanently personal at that. There are inspirational choices that can help a loved one receive the encouragement they need to face a challenge in their life. There are humorous choices that can put a smile on a friend's face. There are mysteries and dramas and autobiographies too. Matching their interests with your book choices can be half the fun at this time of year. Or, if there are too many good choices, then give a book store gift card and allow your loved one the opportunity to pick out exactly what they want this year.

The holiday season does not need to be about stress, spending too much money, or yelling at the crazy drivers on the road. The thought that goes into picking out any gift is worth everything. Let us all remember to be grateful that others love us enough to show they care. We can show our appreciation throughout the entire year.

Blessings to all during this holiday season. Be safe, show respect, and share your compassion this year - you will be so glad you did.

Today I will wrap the gifts with love; I will choose the gifts with thoughtful compassion; I will express my love to all those who are in my life today. I am blessed to have so many friends - may I always remember to let them know they are a blessing in my life. I am grateful. - K Kerswig, Blue Skies Life Coaching
