Outperforming Self-Esteem

"Everything that happens to you is a reflection of what you believe about yourself. We cannot outperform our level of self-esteem. We cannot draw to ourselves more than we think we are worth." - Iyanla Vanzant, best-selling author and motivational speaker

"We cannot outperform our level of self-esteem." - This is a very powerful statement. I now understand just how true it is for me. Today I believe this concept wholeheartedly.

My self- esteem was always an issue when I was a young child, a teenager, and a young adult. In fact, at one point I took a psychological evaluation for a course I was in and I scored practically a zero in the self-esteem category! I didn't think that was possible but that's what happened.  It was as if I was on this weird ego trip, only I felt I was the lowest of the low instead of the greatest of the great. I didn't believe in myself, I didn't think anyone else believed in me, and I allowed this kind of thinking to keep me in victim mode. I was very adept at spinning a story to let anyone know just how difficult my life was. I sometimes still do that today, but not very often.

I've come to dislike the "Kathleen" who always wanted people to feel sorry for her. Today I choose to know the truth about myself and grow from that knowledge. I've come to understand that I have a God in my life who loves me. I am precious to God and He only wants me to experience the joy that life has to offer. So, just for today, I will continue to put one foot in front of the other as I help others to the best of my ability. For some reason this has worked wonders in my life, so I will continue to do what works. May everyone know just how worthy they are today. Namaste.
