High Society

"You can tell how high a society is by how much of its garbage is recycled." - Dhyani Ywahoo, international spiritual teacher and author

Well, this will make you think.  I'm a recycler and I know that my neighbors are too.  I'm not sure I'm in high society though.  Hmmmm!

This quote brought my mother to mind.  She was a dedicated recycler.  She had different containers set up for each type of material.  We had a strict routine that we had to follow when it came to recycling.  Everything had to be rinsed out properly, then drained appropriately, and then placed in the right container.  There was no room for error - we had to do it right or we would be called back to do it again until we got it right.  I used to complain about this when I was younger, but in retrospect, Mom was just very concerned about doing the recycling the best way possible.

That's what I learned from my Mom - to always put my best effort forth in everything I do.  I have to be careful sometimes though.  I tend to shy away from attempting projects if I think that I can't do it perfectly.  But, for the most part, I was taught to give 100%.  I'm grateful today for those lessons from my mother.  I miss her every day but I will never forget what she taught me.  Love you Mom!
