Send A Letter

"To send a letter is a good way to go somewhere without moving anything but your heart." - Phyllis Theroux, essayist, columnist, teacher, and author

Let me share a story about writing letters.  It's the kind of story that reminds me of just how present God is in my life.

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine posted a beautiful essay about the art of letter-writing.  She talked about the days when we would get excited because we received a letter in the mail.  There was a time when we didn't have cell phones, text messaging, and email.  One of the only ways to communicate was by letter.  I remember the happiness I would feel when I saw a letter in my mailbox.  That essay my friend wrote recently reminded me of all that.  And so I commented on her post by saying that I was going to write someone a letter.

Well, it wasn't even an hour later when I received a phone call from a good friend of mine.  He was calling me to ask if I would write a special letter for someone I loved very much.  I was amazingly shocked!  Just as I entertained the thought of writing a letter, the opportunity manifested itself immediately.  I've been told that thoughts can be very powerful but this experience showed me just how powerful they can be.

I wrote that letter the same day that I saw the essay.  It felt great to put my thoughts on paper and sign it with love to an important person in my life.  I'm so grateful that I'm learning to be in tune with the universe.  Thoughts are powerful so I choose to be alert so that I can experience more of these "coincidences".  Thank you God!
