Let's Remove The Weeds

"We plant seeds that will flower as results in our lives, so best to remove the weeds of anger, avarice, envy, and doubt." - Dorothy Day, journalist and social reformer

This quote provides me with a clear visual image of a garden in my life.  It's been my experience that when I "water" the weeds of resentment, envy, doubt etc, the results are disastrous.  When I care for the healthy plants in my garden with love, empathy, and compassion, the results come back to me as contentment, peace, and serenity.

This makes me think of an important lesson I learned a long time ago.  The more I give, the more I receive.  It is as if the Universe gives back what I give, only in a greater proportion.  As I give love and understanding to my friends and family, I receive even more love and understanding from them.  It works beautifully as long as I continue to remove the weeds on a daily basis.  I don't live in the negativity that those weeds can bring anymore.  I would rather plant seeds that turn into beautiful flowers of positivity.  I can do that, one day at a time.

I ask God every day to help me be the best person I can be.  Some days may be better than others, but I will always make the effort - the rewards from living this way are outstanding.
