"If we take care of the moments, the years will take care of themselves." - Maria Edgeworth, novelist
I like taking care of the moments today. This was another lesson for me. I grew up worrying about everything in my life. I was busy projecting into the future and I missed a lot of moments along the way. I never projected things in a positive way either. I have a friend who always says he has a "negative" projector. I can relate to that. I seemed to always focus on the negative no matter what the circumstances were. This type of living did not do me any good at all.
There was a time in my life when everything seemed to be falling apart. It was then that I realized that I had to do something different. I decided to turn my life over to a Higher Power at that point. I wasn't very hopeful about it changing anything, but I didn't really have anything to lose. Some very good friends of mine told me it worked for them so I tried it. Over recent years, my connection to God has gotten stronger and more powerful. I wouldn't want to go back to my old way of thinking ever again. I've decided that God is my pilot (not my co-pilot) because He really knows what's best for me. It's as if He can see around the corner, knowing what is headed my way, and He keeps me safe so that I don't get "hit" with something I can't handle. It's been the best choice I've ever made.
What does this have to do with moments and years? Everything! I have learned to turn all of my moments over to a power greater than myself and that's how the days, months, and years take care of themselves. Not every day is perfect but every day is a grateful one for me because I know I'm in good hands.
