"Life is the only real counselor. Wisdom unfiltered through personal experience does not become a part of the moral tissue." - Edith Wharton, the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize in Literature
Personal life experiences have gotten me to where I am today. I believe it's a choice that I need to make every day. I must choose to learn from all that happens to me and around me each day. Life is my counselor - is it yours?
I'm reminded about those times when I think I can't learn anything from a certain person or even a particular situation. That is a lie that I have tried to tell myself at times. The truth is that I can ALWAYS learn something from the people I meet and the situations I must deal with every day. I may be learning about what I DON'T like, but I'm always learning. If I'm treated badly by someone, I learn what NOT to do to another human being. There's always a lesson.
My suggestion would be to allow life to be your counselor. We can change our thinking as we go through our days and this will help us change our actions. And this, in turn, will bring about the results that any human counselor can help bring about. Let's give it a try - let's all allow life to be our real counselor. With practice and by repeating positive affirmations, there's no telling how fantastic our lives will be. Ready, set, go!
