Life is ...

"Life isn't a matter of milestones but of moments." - Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, mother of President John F. Kennedy

I think Mrs. Kennedy was right - life is made up of so many moments.  I look back now on my life and I can't believe how much has happened in such a short period of time.  It seems as if I've lived my life in several significant segments where an abrupt change has occurred, yet each of these big segments have been filled with many significantly poignant moments.

I was physically attacked and nearly murdered at work when I was 16 years old.  At the age of 35 I decided to get help for a serious problem I was having with alcohol.  Right after I turned 40, my daughter was in a near-fatal automobile accident.  My mom passed away in 2002 when I was 42.  As I'm writing this it feels as if all of these things happened a lifetime ago.  Yet, it all seems to have happened in the blink of an eye as well.

Considering all of this, I'm struck by the moments that happened in between each event.  The theme in my life has been very consistent - if I turn to the God of my understanding, I will always be okay.  I've been led down a path of spirituality that has shown me I can have peace in my heart while everyone is whirling about.  I've learned to practice being still and listen for God's voice to speak to me.  I practice in those moments referred to here in this quote.  I'm learning and I'm growing. I've truly been blessed in every area of my life.

Today I am grateful for it all - the significant life-changing events and every moment in-between.  Thank you God, thank you God, thank you God.
