"Grace fills empty spaces, but it can only enter where there is a void to receive it." - Simone Weil, philosopher
Grace is a beautiful gift, available to everyone, I believe. We only need to say yes to God when it is offered.
There was a time when I didn't think I was entitled to God's grace. I wasn't a very good person in my early adult years. I lived my life in a very selfish way and didn't care about anyone else. I am not proud of how I used to be, but that's how it really was. It felt as if I had a hole inside of me that could never be filled. I didn't know what to do. I felt hopeless.
By the time I became willing to admit that my way of living life wasn't working, I feared that it was too late for me to turn my life around. I was afraid I was doomed to live in isolation and emotional pain forever. I decided to reach out for help anyway. I was desparate and didn't know what else to do. It turned out to be the best thing I could have ever done. My new friends taught me about God's grace and how that can fill up any hole inside of me. They were right.
I've found out in my own experience that God's grace is always available. It doesn't matter what I did in the past. I needed to do some work on myself first in order to receive this gift of grace. I needed to get willing to admit when I was wrong. I needed to make amends to those I hurt and I needed to change my behavior so it wouldn't happen again. As I started to live my life honestly, things began to get different. It wasn't always easy to put other people first, but I came to understand that this was the right thing to do.
When I choose to do the next right thing, I am blessed with God's grace. It's a beautiful thing. Now, this may not be true for everyone. I'm just sharing on my own personal experience. I'm grateful for hitting my bottom. I'm grateful for getting help from others and I'm grateful for my Higher Power loving me enough to carry me through such difficult times. Now I can share what I've learned with others. It's the least I can do after receiving this gift of grace. I'll never be able to repay what I owe, but I will keep giving back for as long as I'm on this earth. I'm blessed with a fulfilling and purposeful life today. Thank you God.
