When People Stop Talking...

"When my enemies stop hissing, I shall know I'm slipping." - Maria Callas, opera singer

I've heard this statement in a variety of ways for many years.  I don't know what it is like to be famous so it's hard for me to relate to these types of statements.  I have to believe that it must be very difficult to go through life with thousands of people watching and waiting to see if you will do something "newsworthy". The media alone can be relentless.

I'm often amazed at some of the news we hear these days about celebrities.  The number of scandals have increased by leaps and bounds over the past decade and I find myself wondering how some of these celebrities can even stand it on a daily basis.  When someone is struggling with an addiction or their relationship is falling apart or they are financially bankrupt, it can be very difficult not to give in to the depression that surrounds these catastrophes.  So it's got to be so much more difficult to face these challenges with cameras surrounding your home or your work environment every minute of the day and night.

I feel for the celebrities facing such tough obstacles in their lives, no matter what the offense might be.  I've had quite a few challenges in my life and it was very hard for me to work my way back from the bad choices I made early on in my lifetime.  It was emotionally draining and physically exhausting to admit that I needed help in some areas.  I'm not sure I could have withstood cameras and reporters following me everywhere I went.  I think I would have wanted to give up completely.

Today my prayers are for all people who are suffering from the mistakes they've made - people who are both  in and out of the limelight.  May they feel the presence of their own personal God within themselves, know the love that comes from Spirit, and find the solution that fits in with the highest good for all those affected. God is big enough to take care of all of us.  Today, may I remember this is true for everyone, young or old, male or female, famous or not.
