"It is not in the still calm of life, or the repose of a pacific station, that great characters are formed...The habits of a vigorous mind are formed in contending with difficulties. All history will convince you of this, and that wisdom and penetration are the fruit of experience, not the lessons of retirement and leisure. Great necessities call out great virtues." - Abigail Adams, first lady (1797 - 1801)
This is so true for me and I'm sure for many others who read this. As I struggled with difficulties throughout my life, I found myself complaining and whining and wondering why I had to go through all that was coming my way. The truth of the matter is that every single one of those challenges made me a little bit stronger and brought me a little bit closer to my Higher Power. I have a life today that is beyond my wildest dreams - not with possession but with loving friends - and I'm becoming the person I think God wants me to be. Mrs. Adams was right on target with this quote in my opinion. I will be forever grateful to the God of my understanding for always being there to help me through the toughest challenges and the hardest decisions. I am blessed.
