"Everlasting Mediocrity"

"One wants to be something, very great, very heroic; or if not that, then at least very stylish and very fashionable. It is this everlasting mediocrity that bores me." - Harriet Beecher Stowe, novelist and humanitarian

Pride and ego can motivate us to strive to be better than everyone else. We can end up becoming arrogant and egotistical. We can sometimes go overboard and once we start obsessing about showing off we can get ourselves into a heap of trouble. Wanting to be the best of the best can often cause us more heartache than happiness.

Life does not have to be mediocre. It can be exciting and exhilarating and it does not have to come to us at the expense of others. We can actually encourage each other to be leaders by example. If we want to be stylish and fashionable, we are free to be just that. We do not have to force ourselves into the limelight to be a great influence to others. All we need to do is focus on our own lives, doing our own work, following our own dreams, and helping each other along the way.

Life is filled with challenges and blessings. Life is hardly ever boring unless, of course, we decide to start labeling it as such. Our thoughts create our world and so it is best for us to choose our thoughts carefully and considerately. If we can learn to do this, life will never be boring!

Today I will choose my thoughts with care and I will lead by example rather than wanting to be 'very' anything! I am grateful.
