"Everyone realizes that one can believe little of what people say about each other. But it is not so widely realized that even less can one trust what people say about themselves." - Rebecca West, author and journalist
When meeting new people, what do you say about yourself? How do you describe who you are to others? If we can learn to describe ourselves positively without embellishing, then we have learned to be genuine and authentic. People tend to gravitate towards those who are genuine and authentic - it is a natural attraction.
Life is much easier when we do not have to pretend to be something we are not. We do not have to remember what lies we told others and we do not have to paste a smile on our faces when we want to cry instead. There is too much energy needed to live a life that includes presenting a facade to everyone every day. If you want to be able to trust what people say about themselves, then it is best to be that kind of person as well. You will be able to weed out those who are not willing to be their true selves around you. Remember that 'like' attracts 'like'.
Today I will be honest with the people in my life. I will choose to keep like-minded people around me rather than those who feel the need to embellish the truth about themselves and others. I am grateful.
