Self-Perception

"I would have girls regard themselves not as adjectives but as nouns." - Elizabeth Cady Stanton, social reformer and women's suffrage leader

This quote is just as relevant for boys, men, and women, as it is for girls.   In my case, I'm very good at defining myself with negative adjectives such as lazy, fat, and old, just to name a few.  I'm not any of those things but I tend to think this about myself anyway.  I don't know why I'm so hard on myself.  I think it might be my attempt to beat others to the punch so that I won't be hurt or insulted.

Being so hard on myself does not do me any good at all.  I believe that I am a child of God and I have a spirit inside of me that guides me towards my highest good.  If this is true, then none of those negative labels apply.  I believe we all have this spirit within to guide us and help us throughout this adventure of life.  I'm grateful to be able to recognize the good in me today as well as the good in everyone I come in contact with each day.  Progress begins when we regard ourselves and all others with loving respect.
