"The vision of a champion is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion - when no one else is looking." - Mia Hamm, soccer player
Being an avid sports fan, I can clearly visualize this. There are many outstanding athletes who come to mind when I read this quote and the image conveys a strong message. The dedication and commitment it takes to excel at any professional sport means a lot of sweat and practice, practice, practice. There are many athletes I admire because of their determination to be the best.
On the other hand, this statement gets me to thinking about my own actions and behavior. I need to look at how I act when no one is looking. Am I saying one thing and doing another? Am I just talking the talk but not walking the walk? I hope that I walk it more than I talk it. I think I do. But it's important for me to keep in mind that in order for me to experience the most out of life, I have to give more than I receive and I have to do it without any expectation of reward or return. When I expect nothing in return, I am blessed with a feeling of peace and serenity because I've done God's will and not my own. My purpose in life is to be of maximum service to others. I've been taught that this is all I need to do. The rewards automatically come to me if I follow this plan.
I guess that I need to re-evaluate what's going on in my life these days to be sure that my actions are what they should be. I have come to realize that these quotes always pop up for me as reminders. Thank you God for speaking to me through people, songs, quotes, etc. You've got my attention.
Today I am willing to act appropriately whether people are looking or not. Today I will not expect things from others. Today I will give. I am grateful. - K Kerswig, CPC, CRC
