"The people must grant a hearing to the best poets they have; else they will never have better." - Harriet Monroe, editor, critic, and poet
Poetry is something I don't know much about. I've never been very interested in it and I've not been very successful when school assignments required me to attempt to write a poem. I've always admired my friends who seem to have a beautiful talent for writing poetry - I guess that we can't all be good at everything in life.
As I read this quote today, I thought about striving to excel and improve. This quote is a reminder for me to remain open-minded enough to explore new things. If I am willing to "grant a hearing" to the best of anyone in any profession, then I open myself up to a world of boundless possibilities. Experts can teach us new things which, in turn, gets people's imaginations moving and before you know it, even better ideas spring forth. I think that's how we get to the "better" referred to above.
So, even though I don't know much about poetry, I do know that I can learn so much from others as they share their best with the world. I pray that I may remain open-minded and willing to pay attention so that I can help the world move towards "better" and maybe even best some day.
Today I will strive to excel. Today I will be an explorer and follow my heart. I am a creative human being and I am truly grateful. - K Kerswig, CPC. CRC
