A Life Unlived

"At the worst, a house unkept cannot be so distressing as a life unlived." - Rose Macaulay, novelist

I remember those days when I was growing up and we were expecting company to come over for dinner. It was a major undertaking to prepare our house for their arrival. Everything had to be perfect and there were so many chores to do that I never thought we would get done!

Now that I'm an adult and I have my own home, I must admit that I don't go through those grand preparations before my friends come over for a visit. I'd rather visit with them and enjoy their visit. I don't want to start out by being stressed from cleaning to perfection. Living my life means appreciating all the experiences that come my way. Spending time with my friends and family means so much to me. They don't love me based on my housekeeping skills (which is a good thing). They love me for me. And I thank God every day for that. Let's all live life today - housekeeping doesn't have to be our only focus today.
