"A successful life for a man or for a woman seems to me to lie in the knowledge that one has developed to the limit the capacities with which one was endowed; that one has contributed something constructive to family and friends and to a home community; that one has brought happiness wherever it was possible; that one has earned one's way in the world, has kept some friends, and need not be ashamed to face oneself honestly." - Eleanor Roosevelt, first lady (1933-1945) and reform leader
Well, first of all, this is the second quote in a row that talks about contributions to others. I think that someone is trying to tell me something here. Maybe the message is for others as well, but my attention is always grabbed by "coincidences" such as this one. Contributing something constructive will definitely be a priority of mine - I've learned not to ignore messages that keep popping up.
Now about the quote itself - the last phrase is meaningful to me. I'm happy to say that I'm not ashamed to face myself honestly today. It's not been an easy journey for me, but I'm now at a point where I recognize the importance of owning up to all of my character traits. I'm not perfect and there will always be room for improvement. I've come to realize that I'm a good person and I will continue to strive to be the best person I can be every day for the rest of my life. Some days will be good, some will be challenging, but I will always welcome each day as a gift.
