A World of Kinfolk

"No two people - no mere father and mother - as I have often said, are enough to provide emotional security for a child. He needs to feel himself one in a world of kinfolk, persons of variety in age and temperament, and yet allied to himself by an indissoluble bond which he cannot break if he could, for nature has welded him into it before he was born." - Pearl S. Buck, educator, Nobel Prize-winning novelist, and humanitarian

This beautiful quote makes me think about the importance of leading by example at all times. Children are always watching and taking notice of how adults are acting. They then put their own interpretation on what they see. So it's extremely important to me that I remember this and act accordingly around young people.

We all want to be accepted and we all need support from time to time. I don't have control over other people's actions but I certainly have control over my own behavior and choices. Today I choose to lead the best example I can lead. Children deserve at least that much from me.
