"Rules of society are nothing; one's conscience is the umpire." - George Sand, novelist
Listening to my own conscience always helps me make better choices. I know the difference between right and wrong but there are times when I want to take the easy way out by not choosing to do the next right thing.
I've learned the hard way that it's easier in the long run to choose to do what is right. I don't have to spend my time worrying about consequences when I focus on helping others, being respectful of everyone I meet each day, and simply do the next right thing. It takes too much energy to try to get away with things.
As I make better choices, my conscience can rest peacefully in calm and serenity. I like that feeling. It's no longer fun to feel the anxiety that comes with treating people badly or trying to cheat to get ahead in life. I live by my Higher Power's guidance today and life is good.
