Our Spiritual Path

"The spiritual path - is simply the journey of living our lives. Everyone is on a spiritual path; most people just don't know it." - Marianne Williamson, author, lecturer, and founder of The Peace Alliance

If we are all on a spiritual path, then it is my responsibility to respect everyone I meet each day. They are finding their way just as I am finding my way on my own path. We are doing the best we can to walk through our lives with a little bit of grace and dignity. The least I can do is respect every person's journey.

It's important for me to also remember that most people don't know they are actually on a spiritual path. I can sometimes be judgmental of a person's behavior and my annoyance or displeasure will become obvious if I am not careful. If I show my aggravation or my anger, that is the exact opposite of showing another human being the respect they deserve. There are challenging and difficult people in this world - that is a fact of life. But that doesn't mean I have to treat them as if they are less than anyone else. It is not my job to judge other people. There is a power greater than myself that will take care of all of that.

I want to be clear about one point. As I write these entries for my blog, I sometimes worry that readers will think I am "perfect" and always act in the appropriate way at the appropriate time. This is not true. I write these ideas down in order to help me remember what kind of person I am striving to be on a daily basis. Perfection is not attainable but progress towards perfection is always available to me. Therefore, I continue to write these statements as a reminder to me and as a suggestion to others. We can work together to support each other in living a more spiritual life. I appreciate all of the support I receive.

Today, as I live my life, I will remember this is a journey that is taking me down my own spiritual path. Today I pray that I will bring some friends along with me who will help me when I'm down and who will accept my help when they are in need.
