"After all, I don't see why I am always asking for private, individual, selfish miracles when every year there are miracles like white dogwood." - Anne Morrow
I'm grateful for this quote - it's a very good reminder. The magnificence of this world is an extraordinary example of just how great miracles can be. When I can see things clearly without judgment, I'm able to find a ton of miracles every day. That's a blessing.
I, too, used to ask for individual and selfish miracles. Somewhere along the way I began to recognize that I don't need to do that anymore. I've come to the realization that miracles come to me in many ways without my trying to orchestrate specific results. When I am having a bad day, suddenly I will get a call from a close friend asking me how I'm doing. There are times when I find myself thinking about someone I haven't heard from in awhile. And just like that, I'll run into them in a store or I'll hear from them by phone or by email. I think of these things as precious miracles in my life.
At times, when I'm driving to a destination, suddenly it will occur to me how perfect the weather has been lately. Or, I'll notice the beautiful colors in the sky or a sensational sunset or sunrise. As I walk outside to get the mail, sometimes the breeze will blow and I will be overwhelmed with a feeling of God's presence in that breeze. These are all miracles to me. I think they are gifts from God - the God of my understanding.
I have learned that I get so much more when I don't pray for selfish miracles now. I will continue to pray for others and that I may receive clarity to see the miracles of everyday living. There are many, many miracles each day - I pray that I take the time to notice them and appreciate them all.
