"The central struggle of parenthood is to let our hopes for our children outweigh our fears." - Ellen Goodman, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist
Children are such a blessing but there is so much responsibility that goes along with raising a child. The world can be a scary place and yet one of the greatest joys in life is bringing a new life into this world. I find myself relating to this quote about hopes versus fears. It makes sense to me.
The solution, my solution, is simple - I let go and let God take care of them. God doesn't have grandchildren - that's what I've been taught. So I do the best I can to pass on my experience and then I let go and allow my children to follow their own path. I have not been a perfect parent but I have done my best and that's all I can do. I trust that the Universe will lead my children in the direction they need to go. I don't have to control everything anymore. I love my children dearly and I know they love me - even when we disagree. I must respect them as adults and know that they are entitled to make the same mistakes and decisions that I got to make when I was younger and still learning about life. I'll be learning for the rest of my life and they are entitled to that privilege too.
Today I will send my prayers to all of the children on the planet, that they may know they are loved and cherished and that there is always hope. Thank you God for hopes outweighing fears.
