A Grandmother's Worth

"Uncles and aunts and cousins are all very well, and fathers and mothers are not to be despised; but a grandmother, at holiday time, is worth them all." - Fanny Fern (Sara Willis Parton), 19th century columnist

I remember my "Nana" and I still miss her terribly. She died at the age of 87 in September of 1994. She was the person who taught me the most about unconditional love. She was always a calm presence in my life. She lived three hours away from where I grew up, so going to visit Nana was always a big deal. We would visit her during the holidays and in the summertime when I didn't have school. I loved those trips. I knew I was always going to have a great time just being in her presence.

I miss Nana - very much. But I will always keep her in my heart. I will remember holidays in Massachusetts, smelling the wonderful aromas coming from Nana's kitchen. My true desire is to always make people feel as welcome as I did when I went to stay with Nana.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! Peace and blessings to everyone.
