No Luck Involved

"You just don't luck into things as much as you'd like to think you do. You build step by step, whether it's friendships or opportunities." - Barbara Bush, first lady (1989 - 1993)

This is what I've been trying to do. I've been building, step by step, always moving forward towards my individual goals. I don't depend upon "luck" to get me to where I want to go.

I don't know if anyone can relate to this, but there was a time in my life when I would just sit back and "wish" for good things to come my way. I wasn't willing to do anything to help myself achieve my dreams. I don't think I even took the time to determine what my dreams were back then. Somehow I imagined that those possessions I wanted and the relationships I yearned for were just going to magically appear. I found out that's just not how things work.

I have learned a valuable lesson. I have learned that if I do the footwork and build step by step, then as I meet my goals, I feel a sense of accomplishment. If my goals and desires are achieved, I get an added bonus in knowing I did my part to earn them. It's a much better way for me to live.

Today I don't want to just luck into things - today I want to work hard and build my life, step by step. I am grateful.
