Fall In Love Many Times

"A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person." - Mignon McLaughlin, writer

Relationships take work - lots and lots of work. They can be wonderful and difficult and a blessing and challenging. But when it's right, it's the most incredible thing in the world.

Long-term relationships amaze me. They amaze me because I know how much people can change over the years. My parents were married close to fifty years before my mother passed away. There were happy times and there were stressful times. But they continued to work at their relationship and they ended up staying together for all of that time. In the end, even when my mother was in so much pain and unknowingly became so difficult as a cancer patient, my father cared for her, fed her and gave her medication right on schedule. He never thought about sending her to a nursing home. He knew she was scared and she only wanted to be home for the rest of her journey. My dad gave that gift to her.

So, I'll say it again. I'm in awe of those who can stay together for a lifetime. Blessings to you all.
