No Do-Overs, No Regrets

"I only believe in do-overs in golf. In life, I believe in no regrets." - Robin Roberts, broadcast journalist

It's hard not to have regrets sometimes. I've made some big "mistakes" in my lifetime, but I've come to recognize that these "mistakes" were necessary in order for me to get to where I am today. Each choice I made led me down an individual path with lessons along the way. Do-overs don't work in real life as far as I'm concerned.

I'm very content with my life today, but this hasn't always been the case. The more I struggled in earlier years, the more mistakes I made. And, the more mistakes I made, the more I regretted my actions. I could never find a way out of this negative life cycle. I was depressed and felt completely hopeless.

I finally reached out for help and I was told by some loving friends that I could follow some of their suggestions and take some steps to straighten out my life. The steps included trusting God, cleaning house, and helping others. As I followed their example, things did turn around for me. I began to realize that I didn't regret my past anymore. I could share my experience with others so that they would know they could walk through the same challenges that I did. Sharing common circumstances with others helps ease the discomfort.

So, I agree with Ms. Roberts - no regrets for me today or any day. I pray that I will always learn from the choices I make. Oh and one more thing: I also don't believe in do-overs except in golf. Everyone needs do-overs in golf, don't they? :)
