"If we could only, just once, give the same amount of reflection to what we want to get out of life that we give to the question of what to do with two weeks' vacation, we would be startled at our false standards and the aimless procession of our busy days." - Dorothy Canfield Fisher, writer
I can remember how much preparation went into our annual family vacations to Lake George, NY. The anticipation was so intense that I could hardly wait to get there. My mother would take me shopping several weeks before the trip to get new clothes! I loved that part. We didn't have a lot of money so getting several new outfits and new sandals for the summer was very exciting to me.
As I'm sharing this here, I'm completely relating to what Ms. Fisher is saying in the quote. I remember just going through the motions for the most part when I was growing up. I wasn't too concerned about my future or what I wanted to GET out of life. I just went to school, did my best to get good grades without too much effort, and dreamed about getting out on my own. Dreaming is good but I did not have any plan set up for how I was going to take care of myself once I became responsible for myself. I think I was on that aimless procession mentioned here in this quote.
So, for today, I choose to reflect, become aware, make decisions, and then take action, not about a vacation, but about the direction my life is taking.
