Make Your Mind Large

"I learned to make my mind large, as the universe is large, so that there is room for paradoxes." - Maxine Hong Kingston, academic and writer

I've learned to keep an open mind about everything these days. There are many paradoxes in life and I want to be open to all of them. These are the things that actually help me live in peace and serenity because I've been able to see the beauty and benefits in such concepts.

My favorite paradox is about the need for me to give of what I have in order to keep it. I have spent years learning this principle. I started out confused about the idea but as I've practiced over the years I've come to love living in this way. My close friends first introduced this idea to me in the late nineties and it took me awhile to come around to their way of thinking. It, of course, did not make much sense to me at first. I was not familiar with giving in order to receive and keep but I must admit it works quite well for me now.

The hard lessons I've learned in life are not meant for me to keep secret. I am meant to share my experience with others so that they do not have to suffer as much as I did while I was learning the hard way. It makes me feel good to help others and somehow, as I give of my time and my experience, I receive much more in return. It's a beautiful paradox that I will always remember.

Today I will give of what I have in order to keep it. Thank you God for the opportunities to share my experience with people I meet throughout the day. I am grateful.
