Who Will Do The Most?

"Likely as not, the child you can do the least with will do the most to make you proud." - Mignon McLaughlin, writer

All children are individuals and they have much to say and do about every subject imaginable. This quote brought a smile to my face because I understand it completely.

I have experienced this first-hand and I must say I didn't realize it until I read the quote today. I know a beautiful young woman who is someone I admire and love very much. Yet, when she was a very little girl, she was impossible. She tried to be completely independent, argued with her parents over every rule that was in place, and she was positive that she knew everything and all adults were simply a bunch of idiots! She was and still is extremely intelligent but this just made her that much more difficult when trying to reason with her. Her teenage years were a big challenge for her parents, to say the least.

This young woman has been an inspiration to me. She has many health challenges now yet she continues to put one foot in front of the other every day and she does the absolute best she can do to live life to the fullest. She is my lesson in perseverance and when I want to give up I think of her and I keep on going.

Today I will remember that I just never know where my lessons are going to come from. May I always remain open to learning from everyone! I am grateful for all the opportunities that come my way.
