"We are taught you must blame your father, your sisters, your brothers, the school, the teachers - you can blame anyone but never blame yourself. It's never your fault. But it's always your fault, because if you wanted to change, you're the one who has got to change. It's as simple as that, isn't it?" - Katharine Hepburn, Academy Award-winning actor (she holds the record for the most wins at four.)
The only things I can change are those things about me that I choose to change. I can practice changing my thoughts and my actions but I cannot get other people to do the same. It is frustrating at times because I would much rather change other people. If I could change other people, I would not have to disrupt my routine and become uncomfortable as I learn new behaviors.
The truth is, however, that I am no longer comfortable with sitting still, knowing that I could be making changes in my life in order to enjoy life to the fullest. I don't choose to sit around waiting for others to change first. Now I take action and I start by changing my thoughts. As my thoughts begin to shift, then my actions follow and before I know it I am in a new frame of mind.
No more blaming of other people now. Today I will change because I choose to change. Today I will keep things simple for me. I am grateful.
