The World's Work

"Don't shut yourself up in a bandbox because you are a woman, but understand what is going on, educate yourself to take your part in the world's work, for it all affects you and yours." - Louisa May Alcott, novelist

This is excellent advice for anyone and everyone, not just women. Adults and children alike can benefit from this suggestion. Understanding what is going on around us can help us gain perspective and learn the lessons we are here to learn.

The phrase that got my attention was "take our part in the world's work". It immediately got me wondering whether or not I am taking enough of a part in the world's work. Am I truly doing all I can to help the people I meet each day? I think I am, but maybe I'm being called to focus more on what I can do rather than counting out all that I have done so far.

Every action, every deed, every movement - it does affect everyone on the planet. If I am to take my part in the world's work as is suggested above, I must remember that everything I do affects me and you and yours. Today I will do more to take my part in the world's work and I will be open to doing all that I can to help others bring goodness, peace, and serenity to us all. I am grateful.
